As a Halifax native, I’ve had an interest in various art forms since I can remember - from writing to drawing, music to interior design, and of course, photography.

In the past 16 years, I have attended hundreds of weddings. The bulk of my experience with weddings has been as a DJ on land, and also at sea. Yes, I've experienced a wedding at sea! Over a five-year period I worked first as a DJ and later on Sound & Lighting productions with Carnival Cruise Lines, working closely with the ship’s wedding planner on board Carnival’s 3000 passenger luxury liners.

After my return to Halifax from the cruise line, I enrolled in the Interior Decorating program at CompuCollege - currently Eastern College - in 2007. (Don't worry, I didn’t waste my schooling – in my downtime from weddings, I work as a consultant for a wonderful home staging company in Halifax called Blossom Solutions.)

While in college, I fell in love ----- with photography!

I bought my first professional camera and caught wind of an opportunity to photograph a wedding for a friend of a friend – I jumped at the chance to try my hand at some real-time experience. After my first wedding as a photographer, another bride and groom saw what I’d done, liked it and hired me on for their wedding. Things snowballed from there, until I came to the realization that I was indeed a wedding photographer, and proud!

Today I have 40 weddings and counting under my belt as a photographer.

Things are expanding and moving happily forward. I continue to learn something every time I pick up the camera and I believe there will always be something to learn for beginners and professionals alike, which is what makes the job great – each wedding is a different experience.

I'm so happy to be doing something I love to do – there is nothing better than being creative and being with couples on the happiest day of their lives! For me, being your wedding photographer is more than “just a job”; it's also the beginning of a new friendship.

Above all, I believe it's very important to find a photographer you mesh with personally and stylistically – below I explain more about my style of photography: a combination of Macro/Details, Candid/Documentary, Formal Portraits and Fun/Artistic photos.

My Style

Personally, I don't really believe in stepping in and telling everyone what to do and how to pose for every photo, although I do believe it's necessary now and again. In fact, I don't really think any one style is going to cut it on your wedding day. I like to break it down into four styles.

Macro/Details

No doubt you're working hard to prepare for the big day. You plan forever - every little detail. Trust me though, once your special day arrives it can pass you by in the blink of an eye. It's so easy to forget all the small things. With me as your photographer, you won’t have to worry about that. I will capture your flowers, your favors, your gifts, your decorations, even the matching pair of converse you wear down the aisle.

Candid/Documentary

From getting ready at mom’s house to exchanging vows, from jamming to your favourite Britney song to toasting your parents, I’ll be in the background getting it all on camera. All these special moments just ‘happen’ on your big day. I’ll capture these without stepping in - unless, of course, you’re caught picking your nose, which doesn’t make the best wedding memory.

Formal Portraits

Honestly, there isn’t much to be said about formal portraits: they're posed and frankly kind of boring. However, you're still (or, at least your family is still) going to want a group photo taken. We'll find a nice spot to take these photos. You'll hear me say "next!" a bunch of times as we roll through the family tree. Though these are important, we don't want to spend all your time posing for family shots. So, I recommend you draw the line somewhere before your 3rd cousins and your high school lunch monitor.

Fun/ Artistic

It's my goal to leave you with a few images that really stand out from the rest and are considered ART. You'll want to post these bad boys up on Facebook, make some enlargements to put up at home and show off to all your friends! We’ll spend most of our time on these photos. You might be climbing a fence, posing like models, jumping rope or looking into the sunset – the creative angle all depends on you, me, the weather (it is Nova Scotia, after all) and what ideas we can think of to make your photos truly unique.
